The Amy Lynn Band
Originally founded in late 2022, the Amy Lynn Band began as a charming duet that featured Amy Lynn Carroway and Sandy Schmid playing acoustic covers of hit songs from the ‘70s through the ‘00s. Known then as the Amy Lynn Duo, they performed a few gigs together before finding Alec Tavener in January of 2023 to add some percussion and pump up the musical emotion. After picking up Alec, the band was known as the Amy Lynn Trio. The band has played at several breweries, wineries, public venues, and private events and continued to spread their influence in the CNY live music scene. As of December of 2025, the full band (now known as the Amy Lynn Band) comprises of 5 individuals that bring their own flavor to the table for the music that we play. The band has a laid-back attitude and welcomes crowd participation and guest musicians that would like to play or sing with us.
The Amy Lynn Band has a unique advantage over other bands in the CNY area: modularity. No matter the size of the venue, the band can shrink or grow to accommodate the environment we play in. We can bring it all the way down to the original duet for small, quiet venues, and can make accommodations for up to 6 additional players if we have guest additions or parties that would like to bring some of their own musicians into the mix! Whatever the music needs are, rest assured that we can fill the air with tunes that everyone will enjoy.
Amy Carroway
One of Central New York’s greatest female vocalists, Amy Lynn Carroway has been singing for 28 years in multiple bands and duos. She got her start in Utica, NY and from there, it just blew up! She works as an nurse by day and sings with multiple bands in the CNY area by night. She is one of the original 2 founding members of the Amy Lynn Duo circa November 2022. We’ve grown the group from 2 people when we started to 5 or more today! Check her out with the Amy Lynn Band or with Auburn’s premier cover band The Arena!
Alec Tavener
Since the age of 12, Alec has been playing all kinds of percussion instruments. Starting with the basic concert snare, to marching with indoor percussion lines and playing mallet instruments, he’s covered most of what percussion has to offer. There are a lot of genres he likes to bring to the table - everything from jazz fusion to rock to metal. He works as an industrial electrical engineer and travels the US quite a bit for his profession. His passion for gadgets and quality equipment has led the way for the band’s sound stage expansion: with new mixers, PAs, and monitoring equipment, you’re sure to enjoy the quality tunes the band has to offer.
Sandy Schmid
Sandy Schmid, from Balwinsville, NY is the other original founding member of the Amy Lynn Band. He met Amy in late 2022 and they performed duets together until they met Alec early the following year. Sandy is retired and loves a good German beer. If you come out to see us play, be sure to watch Sandy feature his banjo or mandolin on some of the tracks that we play!

Kevin Zippel
With a résumé as long as his leg, Kevin Zippel has been playing bass since the late 20th century 😂 (1987) in cover and original bands, spanning classical to country to metal with a penchant for classic rock. Kevin has been busy on the local CNY band circuit for the past 8 years but only recently brings a fat bottom as the newest member of the Amy Lynn Band.
Ed Carroway
Where would any band be without a killer equipment manager and sound manager to keep everything together? Ed Carroway is the “unofficial” equipment manager for the Amy Lynn Band - his contributions in setting up, tearing down, troubleshooting, and organizing have been pivotal to the band’s success. Ed is married to Amy and brings all the sound equipment with him to every show that we play. In addition to that, Ed is in charge of making sure our sound is perfect for the venue that we’re playing at. He’s officially the band’s sound manager and is in charge of the final mix for the musicians. You think we sound good? Thank Ed!
